Last week I was sentimentally sifting through our family’s photographic archives, when I came across this…

“The irony of human life is that it is lived forward but understood backward.” Soren Kierkegaard
As an interesting aside, this photo was taken in 1934, probably using a Beau Brownie camera that would have been bought for between $1 and $4.
Wordless Wednesdays, with…

Wow! They got a photo that stunning from a camera that dodgy? Actually they were probably built to last back then weren’t they.
I just love the photo though. What a great one to have in the family collection!
No you’re right… they were dodgy! The Brownie camera was built out of cardboard! Hard to believe they produce photos of that quality though.
Such a great photo…I love the quote too, so true
Thanks Nicole – my dad gave me that quote!
Love looking at all things old. What an awesome camera!
A far cry from the snazzy DSL cameras of today, that’s for sure!
Wow, that is too cool! I have a few old family photos but they only go back to the 1970s, taken on an instant polaroid!
Ahh I remember the old polaroids! And (ahem) the 70′s….
Fantastic pic! Do you know the story behind the photo?
Thanks Ms M! The photo was taken on the family farm. It was a cattle farm so I’m pretty sure it was of my grandfather and a friend herding cattle!
Ooooh, fabulous photo ! Love how that dust is flying up from the ground. A real “in action” shot. I’m curious like Ms Mandie…wonder what the story was behind it…
Thanks Grace! I found these and other photos as I collated a photobook for my dad’s birthday… with some of the photos dating back to my great-great-great grandparents. It was amazing to look back on them.
love the photo!
Thanks Yvette!
wow a stunning photo. Just think of the limited technology that took that photo
I know… technology today produces some truly incredible images though. We just need to remember to store them for future generations!
